Goodbye for now!
Work has been fun this week! Yesterday I went out and took pictures of several buildings in the historic center of town, where you can see the original town hall, the national cathedral (home institution of the Pope!), the national bank, etc. I also spent some time scheduling out my work plan for the next six weeks. Now that I’m getting to create my own content for the blog, I have a lot of different stuff to do. I spent a couple hours last week brainstorming article ideas, and now that I’ve got it all planned out, I can start reporting and writing next week.
Today I wrote the article corresponding with the photos from yesterday (top places to visit near Plaza de Mayo) and a different article about top tango cafes in the city. The way my attitude shifted after switching to this type of activity at work has reaffirmed for me that I love what I’m studying: this broad field of journalism, where I get to research interesting topics, and talk to people about things they care about, and write it for the world to read.
This might be the last blog post for a while, because tonight I’m leaving on a big trip with my friend Léa. First, we’re taking an overnight bus to Argentina’s second-largest city, Córdoba. We’ll explore the city together tomorrow, stay in a hostel, and then get picked up the next morning by Léa’s host mom, who drove down there a few days ago. She’s going to drive us around the countryside on Thursday to see the landscape and such, and then we’ll take another overnight bus to Mendoza, the center of wine production in Latin America. We’ll probably do tours at the vineyards and wineries surrounding the town, and maybe a day trip into the nearby Andes. Both of us work only in the afternoons on Mondays, so we’ll take a third overnight bus back to Buenos Aires on Sunday night!
These buses aren’t fast, but they’re the cheapest way to travel the country, and you can reserve a bed (which is what we did!) so you’re saving on housing as well. I’ve heard they’re pretty nice. I hope they live up to my expectations, as I’ll be spending a total of ~45 hours on them!
Thursday and Friday are national holidays, but in exchange for taking tomorrow off work, I’m writing a review of each place for my work blog. So I’ll be sure to have some good written material coming back. 🙂
